3 May, 2023, Kathmandu: All Nepal Federation of Trade Unions (ANTUF) has successfully completed its 8th National Congress on 1-3 May, 2023, in Kathmandu electing the new leadership led by Jagat Bahadur Simkhada as a President and Shalikram Kafle as General Secretary in the central executive committee.
The congress was inaugurated by Hon. Prime Minister, Puspa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) in presence of distinguished representatives from international trade unions, solidarity partners, FNCCI, CNI and more than 5000 trade union leaders and members. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Prachanda focused on the need of collective voice to ensure social justice for all the workers and he further committed to put efforts at government level to create better working condition for all the workers in Nepal. The congress was also addressed by Ms. Akiko Gono, the President of ITUC, Mr. Numan Ozcan, the ILO Country Director for Nepal and other representatives from national and international trade unions, solidarity partners and private sectors etc. The message expressed by guest speakers in the congress was focused on the need of collective efforts for better protection and promotion of worker’s rights. The congress also discussed about the problems and challenges the union facing at the moment and identified the key areas of interventions to carry further the trade union moment in Nepal. The 3-day national congress has passed resolution of collective efforts through mass mobilization and development of union strengthens for better protection of workers’ rights and social security.
