8 March, 2022: ANTUF, Kathmandu: With the popular slogan, “Rights of Women Workers is the Foundation to Socialism”, All Nepal Federation of Trade Unions (ANTUF), one of the leading national centres in Nepal observed 112th International Women Workers’ Day via a program organized on 8 March in its head office, Parisdanda, Koteswor, Kathmandu. This program was celebrated in the kind presence of ANTUF Fraction In-charge, Ms. Jayapuri Gharti as a chief guest, ANTUF President, Mr. Jagat Simkhada as a special guest, and other central executive committee members, women leadership and active frontline members as participants. The program was facilitated by Nisha Kharel under the chairmanship of ANTUF Women President, Bishnu Thapa Magar and welcome remark was delivered by Dhanu Dahal.
The program commemorated the brave women who fought for the rights of women in different historical events across the globe. Speaking at the program, ANTUF President Mr. Simkhada said the constitutional provision of 33% of women representation in all structures are the outcome of our rigorous union movement. Mr. Simkhada further focused on the collective action for gender equality in all work places. Similarly, the chief guest Ms. Jayapuri Gharti appreciated the women movement and focused on the collective action from central to province and local level to ensure the rights of all the women workers. She also focused on strengthening the province and local union structures to for greater results. Likewise, the program chair, Ms. Bishnu Thapa Magar in her concluding speech focused on putting pressure on the government to ensure rights and social protection of all the workers. She also focused on the need of joint lobby and advocacy initiatives to reform discriminatory laws and make the workers friendly laws ensuring gender equality in terms of work and payment. Finally, she concluded with vote of thanks to all the guests and participants present in the program.
The program has brought as many as 120 union leaders together on the same platform and make collective voice and commitment to play needful role towards ensuring gender equality in all possible ways. Similar types of programs were organized on 8 March, by ANTUF Province and District Level Committees across the country where thousands of ANTUF leaders and members gathered, celebrated women’s day and made commitment to fight for the gender equality and rights of all women.
